Episode 44: Phenology Throwdown for January 2019

Plants in your yard can help feed the birds during the winter. Daniel gives some examples of seed heads that should be left in place to provide food for birds, as well as some trees and shrubs that have persistent fruits that birds like to eat.

The fruits of high bush cranberry (Viburnum trilobum) are an excellent source of food for birds in the winter.

Next, Casey talks about her chickens and how funny they look this time of year. They are molting, which makes them look like ragged, wet cats. Casey describes the process.
