Episode 24: Phenology Throwdown for August 2018

In the heat of the summer, when keeping the plants in our yards and gardens alive requires regular irrigation, the weeds in vacant lots and along roadsides are doing just fine on their own. We may consider these plants to be obnoxious eyesores, but Daniel can’t help but admire them for their tenacity. Weeds are tough cookies.

At this point in the summer, our gardens are bursting with fruit, otherwise known as swollen ovaries. Casey waxes poetic talking about these botanical wombs.

What you may call a melon, we call a swollen ovary.
